Which Flooring Type Is Best for Underfloor Heating?
Engineered wood, laminate, and LVT/SPC flooring are all compatible with underfloor heating systems, while solid wood is generally not recommended due to its tendency to expand and contract with temperature changes.
Engineered wood performs best when the surface temperature stays below 27°C, and thinner boards (14–15mm) conduct heat more efficiently than thicker options. LVT and SPC flooring offer excellent heat conductivity and are fully waterproof, making them ideal for bathrooms and kitchens with underfloor heating.
Laminate flooring is also compatible, provided you use an underlay designed for underfloor heating with a low thermal resistance (tog value below 1.0). Always check the manufacturer's specific guidance before installation — most brands stocked at Flooring Supplies Centre, including Kahrs, Boen, and Quick-Step, provide detailed underfloor heating specifications for each product range.
